Calista Lets Late Show Down

The No. 1 reason why Calista Flockhart didn't appear on David Letterman's Late Show was not to avoid a Top 10 list that culminated in "Ally McBarf."

According to the Washington Post, the Ally McBeal actress pulled out of an appearance on Letterman's late-night talk show Monday. The slender star is trying to publicize her new movie, A Midsummer Night's Dream, but seems to be bogged down by interviewers waiting to grill her about her girth (or extensive lack thereof).

Last Friday, Flockhart decided not to go through with a spot on Today when the show refused to accept interview restrictions. The Post implies that Flockhart canceled on Late Show because Letterman's spokesmen declined to say whether the host would also steer clear of the weight issue. A Letterman rep replied, "[Flockhart] indicated that she has complete trust in Dave."

Letterman cited a "production conflict" for his would-be guest's absence, an explanation echoed by Rosie O'Donnell's publicist. Flockhart also missed a scheduled visit to Rosie's talk fest Tuesday because Ally producer David E. Kelley added to the Fox sitcom's script, preventing Flockhart from traveling to New York. The publicist adds that Flockhart canceled her Rosie stint last Friday, and has not yet rescheduled for a future show.
