Flockhart Hungry For 'Gaggle' Gig

By Claude Brodesser

NEW YORK (Variety) - A deal is imminent for ``Ally McBeal'' star Calista Flockhart to appear in ``A Gaggle of Saints,'' a series of one-act plays debuting Off Broadway next month.

The plays were written by Neil LaBute, best known for writing and directing the films ``In the Company of Men'' and ''Your Friends and Neighbors.''

The production will be mounted Off Broadway at the 199-seat Douglas Fairbanks Theater beginning June 14, bowing on June 24 and running through July.

``Gaggle'' comprises three monologues, ``Bash,'' ``Medea Redux'' and ``Iphegenia in Orem.'' The first examines gay-bashing while the other two are ``modern takes on the Greek mythological tales of the same names,'' said producer Stephen Pevner.

``Medea'' concerns a princess famed for her skill in sorcery and not her forgiveness. ``Iphegenia in Orem'' is based on Euripides' stories about the murdered daughter of King Agamemnon. Joe Mantello (Neil Simon's ``Proposals'') is in advanced negotiations to direct. Pevner will produce with Eric Krebs.
