Singer-Songwriter Vonda Shepard, the sultry cabaret artist featured on the hit Fox Television series ``Ally McBeal,'' is coming to the McCallum Theatre for a one-night-only concert performance at 8 p.m. on Saturday, November 6. The show, her first local appearance, is part of the McCallum's ``Catch A Rising Star'' series sponsored by Carousel International. Tickets are $45, $35 and $25, and are available at the McCallum box office, 73-000 Fred Waring Drive, Palm Desert, by phone at 760/340-ARTS, or on the Internet at www.mccallum-theatre.org. Shepard, who early in her career played keyboards and sang backup for Rickie Lee Jones, and also has performed with Al Jarreau, Jackson Browne and the Indigo Girls, is touring in support of her most recent album, ``By 7:30.'' It is her fifth release, and the first since ``Songs from Ally McBeal,'' which debuted on the charts at number seven and was certified ``platinum'' six weeks later. ``By 7:30'' is, by Shepard's description, a very personal album. She wrote all of the songs, which contain her signature romantic style as well as reflections on relationships, life's choices, survival, and other emotional themes. The album includes a duet with Emily Saliers of the Indigo Girls, ``Baby, Don't You Break My Heart Slow.'' Shepard was signed to do the music for ``Ally McBeal'' after the show's creator/producer, David E. Kelley, heard her third album, the independently released ``It's Good, Eve,'' which has gone to sell 100,000 copies. Subsequently her role in the series would grow. It was ``Songs from Ally McBeal'' which then vaulted her further into the public eye. ``Searchin' My Soul'' from the album was a top thirty hit, and the video of the same title reached VH1's top ten. |
