Sony Music gets McBeal soundtrack

The bidding war for the Ally McBeal soundtrack has ended. Sony Music's 550 Music imprint reportedly beat out rival labels Mercury, Universal, Restless and Capitol paying $3 million for the rights, according to Variety.

The signing is not only good news for fans of the Golden Globe-winning Fox show. The disc promises to showcase songs from the series as well as those of Vonda Shepard, the piano-playing singer who performs in each episode during the 'after-work club scenes'.

The soundtrack will give Shepard a venue to showcase her quirky tunes, which she does each episode when the lyrics to her songs delve into the storyline or represent McBeal's thoughts.

Shepard also sings the show's title song, "Searchin' My Soul" which will appear on the album as an extended full-length version.

Shepard, who hasn't had a major label release in six years, met McBeal creator David E. Kelley through her friendship with his wife, actress Michelle Pfeiffer.
