Philadelphia native Tom Verica revisits his roots this fall on NBC’s new drama set in the 1960s, “American Dreams,” as the father of four, struggling to keep his Philadelphia family together amidst the challenges of this tumultuous decade.

“He loves his family and is desperately trying to keep them together,” says Verica about his new character. “He’s afraid of losing his children to the outside world and is trying to find a way to maintain their happiness.”

Leaving the City of Brotherly Love at 21, Verica headed to New York to pursue a career in acting where he studied with theater master William Esper. Founding a theater company shortly after his arrival, he began to produce, direct, and perform in a myriad of plays. Verica earned his first big break making his Broadway debut in Craig Lucas’ award-winning play, “Prelude to a Kiss.” Sparked by outstanding reviews, he was then cast as Billy Castroverti on the classic drama “L.A. Law.”

Since then, Verica has appeared as a series regular in “The Naked Truth” and “Central Park West,” and starred as a recurring character on “Citizen Baines,” “State of Grace” and NBC’s “Providence.” He has guest-starred in a number of television series, including NBC’s “Frasier,” “NYPD Blue,” “From Earth to the Moon,” “Picket Fences,” “Home Improvement” and “Seinfeld.” Verica’s most recent television credits include guest-starring roles in the NBC series “Will & Grace” and “Crossing Jordan.” His other television credits include “Donato and Daughter,” “The Babymaker: The Dr. Cecil Jacobson Story,” “Breach of Conduct,” “Not Our Son,” “Gun” and “The Assassination File.”

In addition, Verica appeared in the feature films “Die Hard II,” “Father’s Day,” and the recently released action-drama “Murder By Numbers” starring Sandra Bullock. He will appear this fall in the suspense-thriller “Red Dragon,” starring Anthony Hopkins and Edward Norton.

Verica has continued to explore directing and completed a comprehensive film program in which he produced and directed two short films, “The Bridge” and “George and Gracie.”

Away from acting, Verica spends time restoring his 1967 red Mustang convertible and traveling. He has been actively involved with the Big Brothers organization for the past seven years. Verica currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife, writer/actor Kira Arné, who will be writing for NBC’s midseason drama “Mister Sterling.” His birthday is May 13.
