Synopsis:

Art Garfunkel joins the cast as Mr. Greenwood, Luke Foley's boss at the Vinyl Crocodile record store. Also appearing is India.Arie as Nina Simone, performing at a concert in the Crocodile's back room.

Elsewhere, track practice has begun, and it's JJ (Will Estes) vs. Sam (Arlen Escarpata) in the 880; the scuttlebutt in Helen's lit class at Temple is that the divorced professor (Robby Benson) has a crush on her; and Luke (Jamie Elman) and Meg (Brittany Snow) want to remain friends, even though they have broken up. The problem: He thinks she's not “serious” enough. Roxanne (Vanessa Lengies) puts it in a nutshell when she calls Meg a “bubbly blonde” in her Teenzine column. (VCR Plus+ 8061)

TRACK SEASON BEGINS WITH AN INTRASQUAD MEET THAT PITS JJ AGAINST SAM; ART GARFUNKEL AND INDIA.ARIE GUEST STAR - In the first track meet of the season, JJ (Will Estes) and Sam (Arlen Escarpeta) square off to determine who will race one of the fastest runners in the city, creating a new-found relationship between this unlikely pair. Meanwhile, after their break-up, Meg (Brittany Snow) and Luke (Jamie Elman) try to figure out exactly what to call their relationship with the help of confidents Roxanne (Vanessa Lengies) and record storeowner Mr. Greenwood (guest star Art Garfunkel). Elsewhere, Helen's (Gail O'Grady) classmates lead her to believe that their professor, Mr. Witt (guest star Robby Benson), has a crush on her.
