Synopsis:
JJ and Beth are invited to double date with Meg and Drew; Helen thinks something isn't quite right after Will's surgery; against his father's wishes, Sam goes to see Malcolm X speak. Hilary and Haylie Duff guest star as the Shangri-Las.

Hilary Duff and her sister Haylie impersonate two members of the Shangri-Las, a '60s girl group, in an episode in which the Vietnam War gets in the way of JJ and Beth, and Meg and Drew (Sam Page), when they go on a “double date” to Harrisburg, where Roxanne's friend Lenny is playing with his band. Meanwhile, Uncle Pete's drinking is getting in the way of his relationship with Nancy (Alicia Coppola); Helen is concerned about Will's state of mind as he recovers from his operation; Sam's getting interested in Malcolm X; and Patty makes a friend.

HILARY AND HAYLIE DUFF GUEST STARS AS THE SHANGRI-LAS - Meg (Brittany Snow) asks JJ (Will Estes) and Beth (Rachel Boston) to double date with she and Drew (guest star Sam Page) to see Roxanne (Vanessa Lengies) and her boyfriend's band play in Harrisburg. Following Will's (Ethan Dampf) surgery, Helen (Gail O'Grady) visits him at the hospital and notices something is not quite right. Meanwhile, against his father's wishes, Sam (Arlen Escarpeta) goes to see Malcolm X speak. Nancy (guest star Alicia Coppola) breaks up with Uncle Pete (guest star Matthew Armstrong) over his drinking and Patty (Sarah Ramos) makes a friend at school. Hilary Duff ("So Yesterday") and Haylie Duff ("Girl in the Band") guest star as the Shangri-Las, singing "The Leader of the Pack." Tom Verica and Jonathan Adams also star.
