Nicole Richie impersonates the lead singer of the Exciters, performing the group's 1962 hit "Tell Him" on an episode in which East Catholic is abuzz with the news of coed classes. Meanwhile, JJ gets hush-hush orders from an attace (Jeff Fahey) at the U.S. embassy in Saigon; Beth finds a friend in Cal (Ben Taylor), a performer at the Lair; Sam is urged to try out for the freshman basketball team at Penn; Jack dips into vacation money to pay for campaign expenses; a new neighbor (Daphne Zuniga) shows up at the Pryor's front door bearing gin, and their kitchen is filled with Campbell's Soup because the company is sponsoring an essay contest for high school students, and Patty plans to write 15 of them. Teen singer Hayley Westerna also performs at Lair, singing "Who Painted the Moon Black" from her "Pure" CD.

(From NBC)
NICOLE RICHIE GUEST-STARS AS LEAD SINGER OF THE EXCITERS, HAYLEY WESTERNA AS A SINGER IN THE LAIR -- When the Pryor's meet their new neighbors, they are surprised and shocked to discover that Shelly Pierce (guest-star Daphne Zuniga "Melrose Place") is a single mom, a Playboy Bunny, and that her son, Chris (guest-star Milo Ventimiglia), is old enough to attend East Catholic. As Meg (Brittany Snow) continues her anti-war campaign, she is reprimanded at school by a progressive nun who decides that a better way for Meg to get her message out is to direct Shakespeare's play "Henry V," with a modern day twist. As Patty (Sarah Ramos) becomes obsessed with winning the Campbell's Tomato Soup essay contest, she seeks Donald's (guest-star Hank Stratton) help, which causes some discomfort for Helen (Gail O'Grady). Meanwhile, Sam (Arlen Escarpeta) is recruited for basketball at Penn, which concerns Henry (Jonathan Adams), but provides a new girlfriend for Sam - in the form of his tutor. When Jack's (Tom Verica) campaign for city council begins to affect his family and professional life, he finds himself faced with questions only he can answer. Meanwhile, JJ's (Will Estes) excitement to be with his new squad and return to combat is dampened when he is ordered by the mysterious government man, Stevens (guest-star Jeff Fahey), to report to the US Embassy instead for further training. Nicole Richie ("The Simple Life") guest-stars as the lead singer of The Exciters singing "Tell Him," and Hayley Westerna ("Pure") guest-stars as a singer in the Lair singing "Who Painted the Moon Black."
