About Alan: Alan Rosenberg portrays Alvin Masterson, the liberal but realist chief of Children’s Legal Services in the THE GUARDIAN, the new one-hour drama from Columbia TriStar Television, airing Tuesday nights, 9:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.

THE GUARDIAN’s Alvin Masterson is the latest in a list of intriguing characters that Rosenberg has made his own. He possesses a certain affinity for the character, having been a politically active student of the ‘60s, and understands how Alvin "somehow lost his ideals along the way, but has a big heart and now is in the business of helping children … I can certainly relate to the character’s reason for being where he is."

Rosenberg is perhaps best known to TV audiences for his role as Cybill’s ex-husband, Ira Woodbine, in the sitcom "Cybill," as well as regular roles in "Chicago Hope," "L.A. Law" and "Civil Wars." He has also appeared in numerous television movies and mini-series, and earned an Emmy nomination for a guest-starring role in "E.R."

Equally accomplished as a stage actor, Rosenberg has performed in Broadway productions of "What’s Wrong with This Picture," and the Neil Simon play "Lost in Yonkers." He performed off-Broadway in "Isn’t It Romantic" and "Kid Champion." Additional theater credits include "Old Business" at the Court Theater in Los Angeles, "Water Play" at the Mark Taper Forum, "The Heidi Workshop" at the Seattle Repertory, "Biography" at the Manhattan Theatre and "A Prayer for My Daughter" at the prestigious New York Shakespeare Festival.

Rosenberg’s feature film credits include "The Peacemaker,” "After Midnight," "Impulse," "The Last Temptation of Christ," "Miracle Mile," "White of the Eye," "Stewardess School" and "The Wanderers," his first film.

Born and raised in Passaic, New Jersey, Rosenberg currently lives in Santa Monica, Calif. with wife Marg Helgenberger ("C.S.I.") and their son, Hugh. He enjoys spending time with his family, coaching his son’s basketball team, playing golf and reading. Rosenberg also maintains an interest in politics.

His birthdate is October 4.
