Sbarge has enjoyed a diverse career on stage and screen. Named for the Italian painter "Raphael," the native New Yorker considers himself "born in a trunk" to a theatrical family. His mother was a costume designer, and his father a writer and artist. Sbarge’s career began at age four with appearances on "Sesame Street." Self-described as a "very precocious kid," Sbarge virtually grew up backstage, having spent much time in costume shops with his mother and hanging around rehearsal halls with actors. Considering his background, Sbarge has a special passion for the theater. As an actor, he’s built up an impressive list of theatrical credits while working with some of America’s most talented actors. His work on Broadway includes "Ah, Wilderness" with Jason Robards and Colleen Dewhurst; "Curse of an Aching Heart" with Faye Dunaway; "Shadow Box" with Mercedes Ruehl; "Voices in the Dark" with Judith Ivey; and "Twilight of the Golds," which also involved a national tour. His extensive regional and off-Broadway credits include "Picnic" with Gwyneth Paltrow; "Hamlet" directed by Joseph Papp; "Henry IV" with Kevin Spacey; "The Iceman Cometh" with Al Pacino, and many more. For his stage work, Sbarge received the L.A. Drama Critics Award for "Mad Dog/Dangerous Corner" and the San Francisco Circle Critics Award for "Twilight of the Golds." In addition to theater, Sbarge has also built up a long list of film and television credits. He appeared in the movies "Risky Business," "Independence Day," "Message in a Bottle" and most recently the summer blockbuster, "Pearl Harbor." Sbarge’s television work includes recurring roles on "Profiler" and "Star Trek: Voyager," and many television movies, including the most recent "Introducing Dorothy Dandridge" with Halle Berry.
