In their own individual ways, Nick and Burton Fallin find themselves dealing with issues of the dead. In an effort to bring in new clients for Fallin & Straka, Nick approaches Commissioner Edward Willging about helping him work a deal with Joseph Lombardini. Joseph is the landowner of a cemetery that stands in the way of the expansion of an access road that the county is trying to build. Not only are the families of the deceased fighting for the rights of their buried loved ones, but one of the family members, Judith Davis, has a secret about her deceased loved one that threatens Burton’s judgeship. Meanwhile, Burton tries to help Mary Gressler (Farrah Fawcett), the mother of Mandy Gressler, obtain the rights to bury her daughter alongside Mandy’s father so that the family can be together in the afterlife.
