Synopsis:

Rita Moreno returns as Lulu's mother, Caroline Novak, in an emotional episode that details the aftermath of Nick and Lulu's car accident.

The victims are rushed to the hospital, where Nick (Simon Baker), who was only bruised, learns that Lulu (Wendy Moniz) could face permanent damage from swelling on her brain. When Caroline arrives, she clashes with her son-in-law, Brian (Johnny Sneed), over her daughter's medical treatment. Meanwhile, the woman who was driving the other vehicle dies, and, in an ironic twist, Nick is assigned to represent her autistic son (Mason Lucero). In other developments, Barbara and Evan (Rusty Schwimmer, Nicky Katt) face a new challenge that threatens their wedding.

As Lulu's condition continues to worsen Nick represents Kenny Traeger, the nine-year-old boy he and Lulu were in the accident with. Meanwhile, Burton struggles to hammer out a negotiable deal between Clayton Steel and the town he left behind.
