Upon hearing that he must meet with Henry's social worker during a home visit, Jake fears that an incident in his past will come to light. Meanwhile, Addison becomes skeptical of Jake's needy patient and James continues to pursue Amelia.

Addison locks herself in the bathroom after Jake doesn't give her an answer about getting married. He didn't say yes, but he didn't say no either. Jake just wants to make sure they are ready for such a big step. He often has chats with the vision of his dead wife, Lily, to help deal with life's little curveballs. It's helpful self-therapy especially when he has an upcoming meeting with social worker Mildred, who needs to evaluate his role in Henry's life. That's nothing compared to the shock he feels upon meeting his daughter's much, much older boyfriend.
Angela's new boyfriend happens to be her college professor, Eli. They met in class. The guy teaches human sexuality. Yikes! Jake is thrilled that his daughter has found a man 30 years her senior who makes her happy. Wait a minute! No, he's not. He's furious! He's also upset to learn that he needs to be fingerprinted as part of a background check for Henry. There's an incident in Jake's past where he beat up his wife's drug dealer. Things go from bad to worse for Jake when he tells Angela how he truly feels about her new boyfriend.
Jake's patient, Megan, is hoping the fifth time will be the charm with her latest attempt to have a baby. With her husband out of town all the time, she's constantly calling Jake for the littlest of things. Addison doesn't think this is healthy for either doctor or patient. This leads to a big blowup between her and Jake. They call a cease fire in order to host a dinner with Angela and Eli. It doesn't go well. Jake lets the college prof know that his relationship with his daughter ends now. He makes a not-so-subtle threat to the guy.
Jake rushes to Megan's house to help her through another panic attack. He's completely caught off guard when his patient tries to kiss him. Megan thinks they have a special connection. The next day, Jake suggests she find another doctor. This has Megan claiming he made a move on her. Addison doesn't buy it for a second. She tells Megan that she doesn't ever get to lie about the one man who has been there for her from the start.
Angela confronts her dad about what went down with Eli. She wonders aloud if Jake truly threatened her boyfriend's life. Unfortunately, she blurts this in front of Mildred. Jake expects Addison to be mad, but she's not at all. She knows in her heart that everything will work out in the end. Later, Jake has another chat with the vision of Lily. He knows it's time to move on. He also knows it's okay that he wasn't the one who proposed.
Addison arrives home to find her floor covered with flower petals. Jake is on the balcony dressed to kill. Addison follows the candlelit path to stand by his side. He wants Addison to ask him about the marriage thing one more time. She says, "I love you. And you're the last man I ever want to say that to. Let's get married." Jake pulls out a ring and slides it on Addy's finger. He replies, "Let's get married." Woo hoo!
Amelia continues to blow off every attempt by James to ask her out on a date. She doesn't even want to go to Disneyland. Unheard of! James tries a different approach. Instead of asking Amelia out, he simply tells her where he's going to be. It happens to be a place with great fries. Amelia finds this out for herself when she actually shows up. Pass the ketchup!
Violet counsels Dana and Ron, the parents of Sarah, the little girl who went missing in "You Don't Know What You've Got Till It's Gone." The plight of these parents sparks debate amongst our favorite docs about when is the right time to move on. Violet visits Dana at home when she won't come out of Sarah's room. She advises the distraught parents to continue to live their lives. That doesn't mean they are giving up. They are just becoming a stronger family as they keep the hope alive that their daughter will someday come back to them.
