Chapter 7

Meg drove over to the Shockwave to pick up the picnic basket.

Meg: "Hi Mom".

Joan: "Hi honey. Here's the picnic basket you asked me to make up. We didn't have any strawberries".

Meg: "Thanks Mom. I think we have some strawberries at home. I'll stop by there on my way to the cove".

Joan: "I hope you and Ben have a good time".

Meg: "Thanks Mom. I'll call you later and tell you all about it."

"Well, don't tell me EVERYTHING", Joan said with a laugh.

Meg smiled: "OK, how about how great the food and the weather was?"

Joan: "That will be fine. Bye sweetie".

Meg: "Bye Mom".

As Meg walked back toward her car she seen a florist shop across the street and decided to buy some flowers to put into her grandmothers favourite vase. She put the picnic basket into the car and went into the florist's to buy the flowers.

When she got home she was surprised to see a buch of flowers already on the coffee table where she had planned to put her flowers.

Maria: "Hi Meg. Looks like we had the same idea huh?"

Meg: "Hi Maria. Yeah, I guess we did... Thats a beautiful vase. Where did you get it?"

Maria: "Ben gave it to me. He said I could always put the flowers he gave me into that vase. He used to joke that the vase would have to last a hundered years just like out marriage..." Maria couldn't believe what she had just said. The living situation was hard enough without her rubbing her past with Ben in Meg's face.

Maria: "Meg, I am so sorry".

Meg was hurt but she tried to hide it: "No, Maria. Its OK. You and Ben share things that I will never be apart of just like he and I share things that you will never be apart of. Its just hard to watch what we say with both sets of memories squashed into one house."

Maria: "Your right. I'm hoping to talk to Ben soon so that we can all move on with our lives. By the way, what are you doing home? I thought you and Ben were going on a picnic together today?"

Meg: "We are. I just came home first to get some strawberries".

Maria: "I'll get them for you."

Meg: "Thanks Maria".

Maria walked in to the kitchen and Meg walked towards the coffeetable and put the flowers down beside Maria's vase of flowers. A thorne form one of the flowers scrathed against Megs leg and she knocked against the coffee-table. It shook and the vase fell down and smashed on the floor. Maria was coming back from the kitchen and she seen what happened. She ran towards the coffe-table and started to pick up the broken pieces.

Meg: "Maria, I'm so sorry. It was an accident. I knocked off the coffe-table and the vase fell. I'm so sorry."

Maria: "I know it was an accident. I seen what happened".

"Whats going on here?" said Ben coming into the room.

Meg: "I accidentally knocked over Maria's vase".

Ben: "Well, we'll just get a new one to replace it and we'll put it back in the same place."

Meg stood back looking at Ben helping Maria and she admitted to herself that she was happy to replace the vase she wished Maria would put it into her own home and not be bringing new things into the house as though she was going to live there forever.

Ben knew how much the vase meant to Maria but he knew Meg felt guilty over breaking the vase and he didn't want her to feel worse. Maria went upstairs to get her things together for her art class.

Meg: "What are you doing home Ben?"

Ben: "I left some files here this morning. I wanted to come back and get them and then drop them off at the office in case I forget them on Monday".

Meg: "Mom didn't have any strawberries so I came home to get them. Will we drop the papers off on the way to the cove?"

Ben: "Why don't you go ahead and set things up and I'll meet you there in a little while?"

Meg: "Oh, um, OK. You won't be too long will you?"

Ben: "No, I won't. I promise I won't let anything delay me. We'll have a great time, just you and me. Some privacy at last".

Meg kissed Ben goodbye and Ben got the papaers he needed. Just as he was about to walk out the door Maria called him and asked of he had a few minutes to talk about Tess.

Ben: "Well, I don't really Maria. I have to go the Liberty Coorporation and then I'm meeting Meg for a picnic."

Maria: "Well, can I go with you to the Liberty Coorporation and we can talk in the car? Then I can walk to the art gallery and teach my class and I'll get a ride home later or call a cab".

Ben: "Well, alright. We will have to set things staright about Tess sooner pr later".

They got into Ben's car and started to talk about their feelings towards Tess.
