Ben drove back towards Sunset Beach and kept trying Meg's cell phone but it was still switched off. He wanted to get home as soon as possible and took the short-cuts back home again. Once again he by-passed the road where Meg had her accident and he so he didn't see the crowd that had gathered at the top of the cliff or the ambulance - crew that rescued Meg from the car.

Meg was put into the ambulance and she started to regain consciousness. Meg called out Ben's name weakly and heard a mans voice say: "Don't worry, Miss. Everything is going to be fine. We are taking you to the hospital. You are very lucky to have survived that crash".

Meg didn't feel very lucky. Every part of her body seemed to hurt and as she had been put into the ambulance she had seen lots of people staring at her but not one of those faces had been the one she wanted to see... Ben. She started to cry and begged God to bring Ben to her - to help her, to make the pain go away but she soon remembered where he was - with Maria. She gave into the tiredness that had suddenly come over her and she fell into a deep sleep. The next thing she knew she had woken up in a hospital room with a young nurse standing next to her checking her medication.

Meg: "Where am I?"

Nurse: "You're in the hospital Miss Cummings. You had a bad car crash but you are going to be fine."

Meg: "Please, get Ben."

Nurse: "Is that your husband?"

Meg: "Yes, well no but... I need him, please, get him", she finished weakly. She didn't have the strength to explain who Ben was to her. Before the nurse could ask for Ben's last name and phone number Meg fell back asleep.

The nurse had seen Meg's driver's license and had seen her name but it had said Miss Megan Cummings on it.

"Maybe she had kept her maiden name?" the nurse thought.

She decided to talk to the doctor in charge of Meg's case and ask him who to call. The nurse checked Meg's wallet again and seen that Meg lived in Sunset Beach but she also noticed that in the space for photos there were no photos. She hoped that Meg wasn't all alone in the world.

"Surely she has a family and friends somewhere?" the nurse said to herself. But then she remembered that there were a lot of people in the world who, on the outside appeared to have everything, but really had no - one to share it with. She hated cases like this. Meg was a young and healthy person and she hoped that they would be able to track down someone to come visit her. She had asked for a man named Ben.

"Thats probably her boyfriend," the nurse decided.

She noticed that the buzzer for another patients room was beeping and she went to see what was wrong. It turned out to be a busy day and no one had the time to call Meg's home and see if a man named Ben could come to see her.

Ben had been home for about 2 hours and there had been so sign of Meg yet. He had tried her cell phone over and over again but there was still no answer. He had called the Shockwave but Joan, Hank and Sara hadn't seen her. He called Casey at the Lifeguard station and he hadn't seen her either. He decided to go over to Surf Central. Meg still had a key and she was probably still very angry with him and had decided to calm down at her old home. But when he got to Surf Central the house was in darkness and no one answered the door when he rang the doorbell. He went home and found that Maria, Tess and Benjy were also home. None of them had seen or heard from Meg. Ben asked Maria if their talk with Tess could wait until tomorrow and she agreed. Maria and Tess took Benjy to get some take - out and Ben called Vanessa. She hadn't seen or heard from Meg since they had been shopping together but she told Ben that Meg was planning to go out with her and Gabi the following day. Ben decided to call Gabi and he was told the same thing: that she hadn't seen Meg for a few days. And then Gabi said: "But I did call her earlier". She told Ben that Meg was going to call the Liberty Coorporation earlier when Ben was late for their picnic.

Ben remembered that Louise was staying late at the office that night to catch up on the necessary files that she would need to know about for the next few weeks. He called his office.

Louise: "Good evening, Liberty Corporation. How may I help you?"

Ben: "Hi Louise, its Mr. Evans. Has a Meg Cummings called or stopped by since I left the office?"

Louise: "Actually, Mr. Evans, she called while you were with your wife but I didn't put her call through since you said no interuptions. And you and Mrs. Ev..., I mean Maria left while I was faxing some papers so I didn't have a chance to tell you that Ms. Cummings called. I'm sure she understood that you wanted to be alone with your wife".

Ben: "Damn! Has she called back at all?"

Louise stammered: "N..No sir. If she does call back would you like me to tell her to call you at home?"

Ben was on the verge of loosing his temper but remembered this was all of his own fault: "Yes, please do Louise".

Ben hung up the phone and was very tempted to throw the phone on the ground. What had gone through Meg's mind when she had heard he was with Maria and didn't want to be interupted?

Suddenly Ben thought that Meg might have went to their special place in Palm Springs, the Casita. He left a note for Maria and Benjy telling them that he would be back later and for them not to wait up. In his hurry Ben forgot two things - his cell phone and to switch on the answering machine. Ben drove to the Casita but there was no sign of Meg there either. He realised he forgot his cell phone and when he stopped off at a payphone and called his house there was no answer and he remembered he had switched off the answering machine when he got home from Surf Central and had forgotten to switch it back on again.

Ben thought to himself: "Maria and Tess must have decided to eat in the restraunt instead of getting a take-out."

As he drove back home he tried to make a list in his head of all of Meg's friends. Normally he wouldn't be so worried about her whereabouts as she was a grown woman and was too independent to tell him where she would be every minute of the day. But he knew that wherever she was she was very angry with him but probably most of all, hurt and disappointed. She had been really looking forward to the picnic and he had let her down again.

Meg had woken up suddenly and had felt a lot better after her rest. Her doctor was a young and handsome man named Paul Anderson. She felt very relaxed when he examined her and he was very kind and honest to her. He explained that she hadn't been seriously injured in the crash but because she had trouble breathing at first he wanted to keep her over night for observation. He also was very apologetic that no one had gotten the chance to call her home yet to let her family know what had happened. Meg was very understanding and asked if she could call herself and let them know that she was alright. Dr. Anderson thought it would be good for Meg to move around so he arranged for a nurse to take her to a pay phone. When Meg dialled the number the phone just rang and rang. She called Ben's cell phone but he didn't answer that either. Suddnely she remebered that while she was waiting at the cove earlier, Ben had been with Maria. She quickly hung up the phone and with tears in her eyes she asked the nurse to take her back to her room.

When she was settled back in the bed she began to feel angry toward Ben again. Wasn't he at all worried about her? It was startingto get late and she thought that since the answering machine wasn't on,that either everyone had gone to bed unworried about her or they were out somewhere and still unworried about her. She knew she wasn't Maria, Tess or Benjy's favourite person but didn't they feel anything for her? She was in the hospital all alone and not one of them gave a damn about her. She knew she should call her parents but she also knew she wasn't up to Hank asking where Ben was when they were supposed to be on a romatic picnic. Once again the medication took effect and she fell into a deep sleep.
