Chapter 18

For the second time in five minutes Maria was shocked.

Maria: "Ben, you can't mean that. Benjy needs me now more than ever. Tess has just moved out, he's still getting used to you, he and Meg are only just becoming friends. No Ben. I won't move out while MY son still needs me."

Ben: "OUR son is fine with Tess moving out. He has completely accepted me as his father and he and Meg are firm friends after today. I think they will grow even closer once they spend more time together. You knew you would have to move out eventually Maria and the time has come. Meg was in a car accident because she was so upset about our living arrangements! I won't have her hurt anymore than she has been already. Can't you see that its time we all moved on with our lives?"

Maria: "Oh, I see. Meg put you up to this didn't she? She probably dented her car a little and it freaked her out right? Please, she's obviously manipulating you!"

Ben lost his temper and screamed: "Meg was injured! She was in the hospital and she felt as though she couldn't rely on me! She made me see what I have to do! Its what I should have done months ago!"

Maria: "Ben, I'm sorry. But I don't feel ready to move out yet. I don't know if I am able to take care of Benjy by myself yet."

Ben calmed down a little: "Maria, you don't have to move out today but you do have to start looking for a house or apartment of your own right away. Perhaps you could live with your mother like you were going to before Benjy came to Sunset Beach?"

Maria: "No, I'd prefer to have a place of my own now that I'll have Benjy with me. I'll call the estate agent right now and make an appointment. Ben, I am sorry for my comments about Meg. How is she feeling now?"

Ben: "I think she's a little tired but she'll be fine. I'll go and check on her while you make your call."

When Ben went upstairs Maria sat on the couch and covered her face with her hands.

Maria: "Ben is serious. He wants me to move out soon! I thought I could stall him a little longer. What am I going to do?"

She decided to call the estate agent and make an appointment to look at houses the following week.

The next day Jake got into town and met with Derek. They discussed what was going to take place as soon as Benjy and Meg were alone together. Derek warned Jake not to hurt his son. When Jake left, Derek called and told Tess that tomorrow Meg would be out of Ben's life for good and they would be able to move on to the next stage of their plan.

The next morning Meg was awake early and went into the office to finish some files. She could hardly belive that Grgeory had been arrested for murder. She had just seen him at the Liberty Corporation a few days ago. When she had finished her work she went home and found that Ben was still in his business meeting in the next town and Maria was still at work. She told Tess she could go early and that she would take care of Benjy for the rest of the day. It was exactly what Tess had wanted to hear.

Tess: "Benjy was saying earlier that he would love to go the beach. Would you mind taking him there later Meg?"

Meg: "Of course not. I think I could use a nice long walk on the beach".

When Tess left she called Derek and told him that Meg would be taking care of Benjy for the rest of the afternoon. Derek's plan was to wait until Meg and Benjy were by themselves and then Jake would kidnap Benjy and make it look like Meg had neglected him.

Meg took Benjy to the beach and they started to talk to Casey who was on duty.

Tess sneaked past them and went into the water and pretended to start drowning. Casey shouted at Meg to get more help and he ran towards the water. Meg ran to the lifeguard station but it wasn't necessary. By the time she got back, Casey had gotten Tess out of the water. Meg looked around but couldn't see Benjy anywhere.

Meg shouted: "Benjy, Benjy where are you?" She looked all around the beach but there was no sign of him.

Meg didn't know that Jake, Tess and Derek's plan had went off according to plan and that as she was looking for Benjy, Jake was driving off with him. Derek was watching Meg and felt sorry for her. She looked terrified as she asked everyone around her had they seen a little boy with Benjy's description.

Derek: "Don't worry Meg. Soon you'll have Benjy back but you won't have Ben for much longer."
