The Year That Was: Daytime's Best & Worst of 2002

THE GOOD, THE BAD, & THE UGLY

  • LAUGHABLE LOGIC
(All My Children) Scale Parisian walls, later be afraid of heights. It’s okay to bury a body without a death certificate so long as it’s a homeless guy you experimented illegally on. If you must tell an amnesiac she’s married with children be sure to shackle and deliver her to your fiance against her will or risk becoming town pariah.

  • REESE WITHERSPOON II
(As The World Turns) Jessica Dunphy sparkles as Alison. Comedy, sarcasm, heart, and a part on the Sopranos.

  • TOO MUCH
(Days of Our Lives) Moony montages. Shouting affirmations from cliff tops. Brady and Chloe may as well do the Armageddon Animal Crackers scene. Tone it down.

  • MAKING PROGRESS
(General Hospital) Brenda would have chemistry with a lamp. Scotty’s his old weaselly self. Hired vets Rick Hearst and Lane Davies. And, even if viewers and the writers don’t know it yet, siblings (and ridiculously always the villains) A.J. and Skye are perfection.

  • MAKING A MESS
(Young & The Restless) Christine’s a former date rape victim. Paul tells Andy "I forced myself on her." Producers claim scene debatable. Teenage girls tuning in to see Colleen and JT see line of consent blurred.

  • DRAMATIC REUNION
(Bold & The Beautiful) If you were to choose a place to meet the presumed dead love of your life, a lighthouse in Portofino, Italy, would be a mighty fine choice.

  • J-LO IN TRAINING
(As The World Turns) Molly grieved love of life (at least he was for AW fans) Jake for an entire half minute before falling for Mike.

  • ROMANCE
(Port Charles) The supernatural stuff is hit and miss. But obvious chemistry between two actors has led to a bonafide supercouple. There was no more joyous a scene than Rafe racing to catch Alison’s train.

  • GOOD THINGS
(All My Chlidren) AW’s Anna Stuart and Mark Pinter as Greenlee’s parents.
(As The World Turns) James’ continued obsession with Barbara.
(One Life To Live) Kassie DePaiva as Blair during the live week.
(Young & The Restless) Victoria and Neil grieving over Ryan and Malcolm.

  • UGLY THINGS
(As The World Turns) Julia raping Jack.
(Bold & The Beautiful) Ridge and Bridget’s closeness. Rick Hearst fired.
(Days of Our Lives) Rex and Cassie.
    (General Hospital) The Attic Mystery.
    (Guiding Light) Never-ending Tory mess.
(One Life To Live) Too many parental switches for Nat and Jessie.
    (Port Charles) The Avatar.

  • FOUND THEIR UNIQUE NICHE
(Passions) Mrs. Wallace. Tomato Soup Cake. 4 Weddings and 4 Babies. Singing theme during childbirth. Cracked Connie. Sibling Rivalry. Blindness in the nick of time. Humor. Tennis. Stock Car Racing. Extreme First Loves. Tabitha holding the empty gloves of the young man that she and we will never forget, Josh Ryan Evans.

  • MAGIC
(Guiding Light) Ed taking pleasure in tap water. Mobsters who are truly violent. Gus and Harley. Spauldings. Bauers. Lewises. Coopers. Biting Wit. Backstabbing. Patricia Fields ignoring prisses who think only New Yorkers can dress with whimsy (one episode should feature the entire cast in elephant heads and pimp hats). Joan Collins telling everyone these are the best actors in the toughest conditions.
