2023 The Year That Was

Best & Worst of 2023: THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY

Most Improved Romance

General Hospital’s Ned and Olivia. While it was understandable that Olivia would harbor hostility towards Ned following his one night with Alexis, it reached the point in the last year or so where you wondered why this pair was even still married, she didn’t seem to like the guy much, let alone love him, and at any given opportunity she vehemently would side with Carly, Drew and Michael against Ned. It seemed like we were headed for more of the same when everyone accused Ned of ratting Carly and Drew out to the SEC, as initially Olivia, like everyone else assumed Ned’s guilt. But then something wonderful and surprising happened, when Carly ordered Olivia to kick Ned out of the house, instead of acting like Carly’s little minion, Olivia actually stood up to the bully and said no, she decided to believe in her husband. That moment did wonders for this couple, as did Ned’s head injury, believing for a time that he was Eddie Maine, finally scenes showed this couple as a united front against those who accused him, and Olivia as a protector when Tracy wanted him institutionalized. Most importantly ever since that confrontation with Carly, there have been more moments of softness and warmth and longing looks (in conversations, in serenades, in Eddie eavesdropping on Olivia putting off Tracy, etc.) than there were throughout the entire course of their relationship. I always felt like the show put these two together in such a hurry that we sort of missed the falling in love part of it, and this year, I think we finally saw that slow build of feelings.

Worst Habit

Off-screen Storytelling on The Young And The Restless. Jack Abbott burgled Nicki’s necklace, did he wear a trademark suit for that mission? We don’t know, we didn’t get to see it! Fen came out at some point, but we didn’t get to see it! Mariah and Tessa not only met their baby’s birth mom off-screen, they went through the entire pregnancy and the birth off-screen as well, and too much of their daughter’s hearing impairment journey hasn’t featured on screen either! Allie and Noah scuttled off to Europe without so much as a goodbye despite both hailing from core families! Halloween apparently happened, but, you guessed it, off-screen! I don’t understand skipping over moments that are unusual (Jack commiting burglary) or highly emotional or life altering or even just the sort of seasonal fun viewers enjoy. How was all of that shoved off screen in favor of the endless corporate turnovers that are too numerous to follow or showing Summer on a fake rollercoaster or at a fake concert. It just seems like there needs to be a little more thought put into deciding what truly matters and what doesn’t storywise.

Event That Most Lived Up To The Hype

B&B’s Fashion Showdown. Eric’s efforts to hide his illness, believing it was his final collection, along with the family vs. family angle provided plenty of drama while those in attendance at the show provided comedy with Y&R’s scene stealing Esther in awe of the spectacle and delighted to buy a designer dress (here’s hoping we see her pop in for one of her couture fittings). Most importantly the fashion impressed me like it never has before on B&B. Usually there are too few looks, and they appear fairly run of the mill but this time there were enough dresses for it to seem like an authentic showing (and numbering the collection gave the idea that there were even more than we were seeing), also great was how the designs captured the slight differences in Eric and Ridge’s aesthetics, and many of them were downright beautiful, covetable, which I’ve never thought before when watching a Forrester fashion show.

Most Unlikeable Characters Shoved Down Our Throats

Days Of Our Lives. So this year we lost Sonny, Will, Allie, Li, Phillip, Chloe, Shawn, Belle, Gabi, and Lucas may as well be gone for all we see him. But hey, who needs characters we feel affection for when we can have Talia, a doctor turned baker doing the bidding of her random British boyfriend drugging biscuits and seducing Chanel all in the name of sketchy vengeance. Talia’s run of terror didn’t end along with Colin, either, not only did she get away with her crimes, she then got drunk and slept with Shawn. Then we have the rando Brit’s American sister, who whatever rooting value Sloane may have attained with the loss of her own baby went out the window the moment she stole Nicole’s and left him alone in town square while she went to look for her cell phone. One of the keys to Nicole winning hearts during her baby switch was that she clearly adored the child. Let’s also reintroduce a villain from the eighties who not only makes an over the top mess of Bo and Hope’s dismal return, she introduces us to her equally one note son, who for money, married a woman we hate so no one cared when he cheated on her. Gwen, the woman Dimitri married for money, she booted the dad she supposedly wanted to love her out of his own newspaper, and just plain never stopped doing obnoxious things a trait carried over to her portrayer’s next character Theresa, retaining bits of Gwen’s British accent and none of Theresa’s flinty charm or even more importantly her conscience. The writers putting insane words in Theresa’s mouth isn’t helping either, accusing Brady of being a sex addict and sleeping with every woman in Salem, neither of which is true, did she think she was talking to Alex? Which brings us to Alex, who became even more insufferable when he found out Victor is his dad (he’s not) and proceeded to treat Justin as if he’d done something wrong, it made no sense and was even less endearing than Alex having sex with both Emily O’Brien’s heinous characters, feuding with Maggie or hanging around Stephanie long after she moved in with another man and his children. It’s time to just bring back Ben, especially with his dad up to no good, and there are plenty of talented actresses out there, find one who wants to play Ciara full-time and no, that actresses’ name cannot be Emily O’Brien. I don’t consider most of these bad actors, its those behind the scenes truly at fault, failing to introduce new characters gradually, failing to give them an ounce of humanity for the fans to latch on to, and giving almost all the screen time to these newbies while fading your actual star players to recurring status or less which stirs resentment in the viewers, and for goodness sake, stop recycling actors so soon after they already played a role on the show.

Best Psychopath Tale

Cameron, The Young And The Restless. Usually I’m a proponent for long term stories, my exception to that rule involves psychopaths, a little goes a long way and to me, Y&R got the pacing right with Cameron this go round, moving briskly enough that as a viewer it wasn’t that hard to shrug off some of the holes in the story and instead just go with the quick action-packed momentum, the dead cat, getting Nick arrested, kidnapping Faith, things were very much happening every single day. I’ve always liked that Cameron has a bit of a magnetic quality, so you understood how Sharon made the mistake of randomly hooking up with him, and then Linden Ashby is so impressive at flicking that switch to outright terrifying monster. The cherry on top of this brief story was the fact that Sharon wasn’t a damsel in distress, she saved herself, Nick, and her daughter. The only slight misgivings I have is that the show didn’t run with that, Sharon could have come away from this feeling invincible, maybe get into some dangerous vigilante territory helping other women in bad situations, instead as is this show’s want of late, they saddled her with a go nowhere business storyline, too.

Most Unbelievable Endgame

General Hospital’s Heather revealed as the Hook Killer. This was somehow even harder to swallow than Mason’s female boss turning out to be the very male Cyrus. I know Alley Mills won the Emmy for this, and I have enjoyed her in other roles, but an Emmy submission only covers ten to fifteen minutes of a story, and if you actually watched this arc in its entirety, it was nonesense. Heather is older than Laura, yet miraculously has a daughter the same age as Laura’s grandson. As the Hook Killer, Heather, a not particularly large senior citizen overpowered a navy seal as well as a cop. And turns out she was able to come and go from prison at will in order to commit all these murders. Who would go back to prison if they could just leave? That made no sense. None of it did.

Most Toxic Excuse For A Love Story

B&B’s Hope and Thomas. Let’s walk down memory lane, shall we? Remember when Thomas manipulated and frightened his son into helping him land Hope as a wife? Remember when Hope was far from eager to consummate that marriage? Remember when he was so determined to keep Hope from knowing that her daughter was alive that he ran a teenage girl off the road? Remember when Thomas pursued Hope into the basement and his behavior so disturbed her that she shoved him into a vat of what was thought to be acid? Thomas, Hope’s stepbrother, lied to her, manipulated her, verbally and emotionally abused their son, terrorized her, let her believe her child was dead solely to keep her in a relationship with him, and all of those horrible things he’s done to Hope and to her loved ones is now somehow easily dismissed all because unlike Liam, Thomas only has eyes for Hope. Yes, he only has eyes for Hope because he is obsessed with her. Obsession is not romantic, it’s a mental illness, a scary mental illness, the stuff of stalkers. I have no problem with reforming Thomas into a romantic lead, just not with Hope, that pairing wreaks of sickness on both their parts. I get that this is a soap opera, the primary goal here is to entertain not to teach and I’ve liked my share of twisted characters and couples, but this one, the way it’s presented, romanticizing psychotic tendencies as if obsession is a trait in a partner that you should seek out rather than fear, it’s unsettling and that the response from the predominately female viewership and press has been positive towards this couple is even more unsettling. The least that could be done here is to tell the story semi-responsibly, if Hope is willing to play with fire for hot sex and “devotion”, let’s see her get burned, because that’s what would happen to a woman in actual life who opted for a “no-strings” relationship with the stalker who obsessively loves her, actually, a woman in real life wouldn’t just get burned by that, in all likelihood, she’d end up dead, how romantic.

Most Effective Profession

Dr. Marlena Evans, Days Of Our Lives. While daytime features a variety of professions, media, fashion, and beauty moguls, police and spies, bakers and restauranteurs, newspaper and magazine editors, nurses and doctors and lawyers, none are written in a way that holds my interest nearly as well as any given session with Dr. Marlena did this year, these scenes are guaranteed to focus on emotion (can we say the same for most of the corporate wheeling and dealing on every show?) and they provide an unmatched level of character insight that hasn’t really been seen since some executive who’s never watched soap operas decided to do away with the longer scenes that fans loves. The Bold and The Beautiful repeatedly told us that Taylor was a world-renowned psychiatrist, but on Days, Deidre Hall shows us Marlena’s skills, every single session through her soothing tone, the way she takes thoughtful pauses, responds with measured answers and questions, and how she conveys that Marlena is attentively listening at all times. Her few sessions with Alex this year were the closest I’ve ever come to liking the guy. While liking Li was never a problem for me, his time in Marlena’s office gave me a greater understanding of how his character ticks, and Hall’s willingness to not takeover these scenes with her starpower allowed room for Remington Hoffmann to showcase his acting ability and his character’s psychology on a level he hadn’t previously been afforded (unfortunately soon after Days unwisely dropped him from the show, hopefully not as permanently as Li’s death might seem). And though I generally despise all things devil-related, what a brilliant twist to have Nurse Whitney be a patient who had slipped through the cracks during that time period, so we saw Marlena anguished over her unintentional negligence and in action mode talking down her troubled patient, Hall again an ideal support to a co-star, Kim Coles, as the story took a sudden turn from mostly comedic to sad and dramatic. As for the one moment where Marlena did slip up on the job, discovering that Talia slept with her son-in-law, that was great, too, to see Marlena flawed, showing that sometimes she’s as guilty of being human as her patients are.

The Bold And The Beautiful

Highs: Wyatt’s vehement “yes,” in response to Sheila asking if she’s that unlovable. - “Taylor always says he’s making excellent progress right before he turns around and does something psycho,” Liam speaking the truth about Thomas. - Ridge and Bill comedically teaming up against Sheila. - “Pizza Boy Convict” Bill’s nickname for Deacon – “Samurai Sam” Bill’s nickname for a long-haired Ridge – Wyatt, Liam, and Hope’s grossed out reactions to Bill confirming he had sex with Sheila – James Corden hamming it up in the background as a bus boy – the scenery in Rome – Liam leading Hope into confessing about the kiss with Thomas – “It’s not complicated, it’s just dumb,” Ridge to Finn about Finn’s bond with Sheila – “Any one of these designs would be so bold and beyond beautiful,” Brooke. - Steffy and Eric seated side by side identically reading the newspaper – “How you got Steffy and Hope, that’s going to baffle me until the end of time,” Wyatt joked with Liam. – Luna might be Bill’s daughter – Thorsten Kaye’s performances throughout Eric’s illness – “You probably lured her into the ocean with candy,” Bill about Sheila saving Kelly. – “That’s about the nicest thing anyone’s ever done for me.” A genuinely touching moment after Eric learned Ridge gave him the showdown win.

Lows: Bill/Ridge/the FBI clearing Sheila from charges that would have put her away for the rest of her life (she is not young enough for three counts of attempted murder, breaking out of prison, kidnapping from when she held a recovering Finn against his will, etc) so that they could find new charges to put her away for the rest of her life only she was almost immediately freed. - Thomas got his job back after one mediocre review of Zende and Eric’s work. -Taylor depressed over shooting Bill then magically over it – People who aren’t even the CEO constantly changing clothes in the CEO office, there actually are other ways to show pshysical attraction than shedding clothes for absurd reasons – Every fit model hitting on the designers – Taylor and Brooke behave like giggly teens over personality free waiter Hollis and this was somehow the new dignified version of these women??? – Sheila tossed off a balcony yet immediately gets up and drives a car – Stephen criticizes Ridge for abandoning his family and no one calls him a hypocrite – Hope is a fit model as well as the name on the label? - Liam kissed Steffy five seconds after Hope kissed Thomas, the one time the guy had the moral high ground and he threw it away within seconds seconds – Finn turned his back on a small child at the beach to make a phone call, there had to be another way to let Sheila play hero without making a doctor look dumb and irresponsible and if he had to be dumb and irresponsible, then dig into it, have Steffy wonder whether Finn would have taken his eyes off his biological child - Finn called Liam a puke and you know a character doesn’t work for me when I can’t even enjoy him insulting Liam, it just felt lame – The guy who cheated with Eric’s wife knew Eric was dying before grandson Zende was let in on the secret.

Wishes: Carter, tired of waiting for the perfect situation with the perfect woman adopts a ten year old conflicting with Katie who isn’t sure she wants to be a mother all over again, especially when Will returns as a wildchild teenager - A genuine love story for Poppy and Bill, taking it’s time, months and months of getting to know each other, flirting, show that they’re opposites, she’s a free spirit, he’s a mogul, different parenting styles and ambitions, yet they’re a united force when it comes to defending one another, and taking on Li and anyone else (RJ and Zende) who might hurt Luna. - Beth aged into a teen as sarcastic and cutting as her grandfather, Bill, unafraid to share her astute opinions on Liam and Hope’s extremely messy lives, she thinks she’s above making such mistakes but she’s best friends with her trouble making Uncle Will (also a teen) and attracted to Clarke Garrison’s teen grandson, who like grandad is not afraid to use and scheme to get what he wants, and Beth is his latest mark.

Days Of Our Lives

Highs: Sonny ripping into Leo for aiding Xander in the kidnappings – “He’s one of your journalists? Who else did you hire, Beevis and Butthead?” Sonny upon learning that Gwen hired Leo at the Spectator – “I’ll have what she’s having,” Nicole observing Eric’s Valentine’s dinner date with Sloane – Li laughing over Stefan calling Gabi, Chloe, on Valentine’s Day – Shawn shooting his dad was oddly the most down to earth and certainly the most well-acted aspect of Bo and Hope’s brief yet entirely miserable return – “I’d rather cut my own ear off than go to that Van Gogh exhibit with you,” Gabi to Li – Kim Coles as Nurse Whitney, the story arc wasn’t overly long (though Abe’s amnesia has been), it utilized Cole’s innate sense of comedy while also culminating in a poignant backstory for Abe’s troubled kidnapper, plus Terrell Ransom Jr, appeared as “fake” Theo, and there were a ton of fun asides with the Body and Soul soap opera.– “For your honeymoon, you can both go to hell,” Julie to Stefan and Gabi. - The flashbacks surrounding Victor’s death included both the good and bad parts of him, giving a well-rounded view of the dimensional man John Aniston crafted – Dick Van Dyke guests as John’s dad and really seemed to love being there – Melinda and Li’s brief sort of romance - “Ever since I arrived in Salem it’s been one bloody debacle after another,” Gwen. Precisely. - Tate’s crush on Holly, Drake Hogestyn is right, I love the way this kid looks at her. - Rafe is supposedly on the case but that man couldn’t find his way out of a paper bag,” EJ. -– Nicole on the other end of a baby switch, cue Arianne Zuker’s greatness. - Wendy and Tripp have zero drama, and I’m good with that, plus, loved the apples at Christmas, and her giving a little more insight into Li’s childhood during that convo. -The Horton Christmas flashbacks, now if only there were Hortons in town to create new memories, then we’d really have something. -Holly, Nicole, Eric, and Jude, have Christmas breakfast together, like the family they should be.

Lows: Lucas continues to sit in jail while every one note villain we don’t like keeps getting out – Kate died twice this year without really dying, not that I want her to truly die, I just want the fake deaths to stop being so plentiful. - Stephanie in bed with Chad five seconds after dumping Alex, no wonder viewers don’t care about any of the younger couples, they clearly don’t care about each other. - The devil. Again. That’s only original once. And heaven or whatever it was should have been one episode, if that, not weeks – Allie was raped after being overserved, would she only a couple years later really drown her sorrows by getting out of control drunk and having sex with a guy (Alex)? Or would a character with her history maybe cope in a different and gasp, maybe more interesting way than the random sex scenes this show used as a crutch all year long. - Brainwashing Stefan then brainwashing him back again on top of Bo also being brainwashed and half the town drugged. - Love that Eric and Nicole have a baby together, hate that it happened due to a drugging instead of one night where they just could not resist each other and they and their current partners having to live with that knowledge - Belle reacting as if Shawn cheating was worse than the many times she’s cheated and otherwise trashed their relationship, on a related note, cheating isn’t at all true to Shawn’s character, even drunk, and with someone who’s practically a child compared to him, no, the only time he cheated the devil duped him and somehow Belle blamed him for what was essentially rape as he did not consent to Jan. - Stephanie pouting that Chad won’t marry her and constantly needing the validation of her admiring exes all because Chad, in little over a year, still isn’t ready to get over his brutally murdered wife. If Stephanie wasn’t “Little Sweetness” I’d be tempted to add her to the unlikeable characters list, too.

Wishes: Lucas released on parole under the condition he lives at the Horton house where Julie eagerly takes it upon herself to reform him, medding in his career prospects as well as his romantic pursuits, convinced she’s the mentor he needs and she’ll make a proper Horton of him yet – JJ decides his history of drug use make him the perfect candidate to go undercover and write about the drug trade for The Spectator, aiming to earn his parents’ respect only to find he’s an inexperienced journalist and recovered addict in over his head. - I noted how great Marlena’s psychiatry sessions are, so why not once a month or so, showcase that, showcase her, spend the entire day with Marlena at home and at work, or show a session in real-time over the course of a single episode, either way, just give us more Deidre Hall, she’s your top star and her spotlight on the show should still reflect that.

General Hospital

Highs: Cam and Joss’s breakup scenes – “Stop justifying your lies,” Sonny to Carly – “Mom made choices for Willow that she didn’t have any right to make,” Michael the first time in years he hasn’t said something annoying. - The fashion at Curtis and Portia’s wedding, especially Trina’s pink dress – Trina and Portia’s confrontation over Trina’s paternity – Trina and Spencer’s first kiss – Nina gave Willow a product for brittle nails, a quiet tiny scene that was so much more preferable to any of Willow’s insufferable squawking – Epiphany’s tribute episode – Trina and Spencer’s adventure in Greenland was more fun than any other part of it – Curtis rescued Spencer and Trina – “I know kiddo, me too,” Curtis to Trina when she didn’t have the words for how much she cares about him. - “He’s just a condescending ass, he thinks he knows everything,” Joss accurately assessing her brother Michael – Tracy’s chat with Leo about Ned’s memory – Lucy and Felicia met with Jackson Montgomery in Pine Valley - Blair Kramer appeared – “We’re Quartermaines, we don’t busk,” Tracy voicing her disapproval of Eddie Maine – “Who’s Harry Styles?” clueless Grandpa Mac. – Spencer and Trina’s New York weekend where pink remained her signature colour – Lois and Olivia’s giddy response to seeing each other after years apart - montage of Lois and Ned’s romance – Trina telling Ava that its like she found a second mom with her – Joshua Benard’s breakout performance as college kid Adam popping pills in order to strive for the perfection his parents demand. - Chase’s proposal to Brook Lynn - Monica’s return – Sonny mob style negotiating with his daughter over Christmas gifts. - Scotty Baldwin, hitting on Lucy, annoying Tracy, talking about how he considers Liz’s kids his grandkids, snoring when he was chloroformed, just basically every minute he’s ever on the show.

Lows: - Carly denying she kept Willow’s parentage a secret for revenge – Willow immediately forgave Carly for withholding life-altering information – Willow declared that Harmony was a better mother to her than Nina would ever be, to recap Harmony set Willow up to be raped by a cult leader while Nina sided with her young stepchild in an argument with teacher Willow and Nina also told the truth about Michael’s past on the witness stand, yep, that’s so much worse than having Willow ritually raped. - Joss and Dex made a big deal that Sonny would kill him if he decided to not work for him even though Sonny hasn’t killed anyone for leaving his employ – Abysmally handled medical stories, Willow’s cancer from beginning to end, every single character being shamed into hiding their diagnosis, no follow up on how or why Marshall was misdiagnosed -– The deputy mayor and Victor’s machinations, I have little to no patience for one note villains - Carly asked Tracy if she’d been invited to the Quartermaine mansion. There’s no ceiling on her obnoxiousness - Why wasn’t Michael impicated in the SEC crime? Wouldn’t it have been so much juicier had Nina’s tattling sent Sonny’s child to prison? - Carly got the call that Willow collapsed and chose not to tell Nina, the sort of ugly selfish behavior she should be punished for, but we know the writers never will – “I just don’t know what Willow could have to say to that woman,” Joss being as obnoxious about Nina as her mother is, Willow is dying and Nina is her mom, gee, what could they possibly need to say – Drew punched Ned - Continuously having Trina be an apologist for Esme because of the amnesia – Zeke and Taggert disappeared despite major drama in their families – More darkness for Sasha, drugs, shoplifting, Gladys stealing her money, institutionalized, nearly murdered by a crazy doctor, enough already. - Anna’s home burned down, replaced by yet another cold grey set (Valentin’s new home). - Ridiculously fancy prison showers – Blair had sex with David Vickers - “I’ve never been a bride before,” Kristina announced, which is entirely untrue. - Willow gave Nina jewelry from Harmony for her wedding, Harmony helped steal Nina’s child, why on earth would she want to wear that? - Self-righteous little weasel Spinelli still fuming over Cody blackmailing him, much like Drew and Carly, Spinelli did actually commit a crime so he’s not an innocent either.

Wishes: Gregory misdiagnosed – A splashy colorful wedding for Chase and Brook Lynn, no grey-walled rooms, if you can do beach locations shoots for those snores Carly and Drew, then you do right by this couple that actually has chemistry. - Serena comes home and keeps lawyer dad Scotty busy with her arrests for environmentally protesting ELQ which also brings her in contact with Michael who although married finds himself drawn to this spitfire who refuses to passively agree with every law he lays down the way his wife does.

The Young & The Restless

Highs: Victoria’s uncomfortable dinner with Billy, Chelsea and the boys – “I’m a lot,” Billy being self-aware – Lily and Daniel’s walk down memory lane on Valentine’s Day – “I have had all my shots and I’m housebroken,” Tucker protesting Jack’s opposition to him being Ashley’s date to the gala – “The three of you, how cozy,” Victor finding out that Adam, Sally and Nick went to the sonogram appointment together – Tucker, in a robe and bedhead, moved into the Abbott mansion, smirking as he offered Jack coffee and declared him “not a morning person” – Malcolm made another brief return for a Neil memorial – Connor upset over his dad having a baby and for failing to grab Lucy’s attention the way his older brother did – “You have clothes on, special occasion?” Elena to Nate and Victoria. - Adam and Sally’s realistic grief over the loss of their baby – Glam décor and gown at the Chancellor mansion for Ashley and Tucker’s wedding – Sharon hired Esther to run Crimson Lights - Tessa singing to Mariah on the couch to confirm that their baby will be able to feel vibrations even if she can’t hear – Devon talking to Mariah about sign language and other options - Sally fussed with her hair before opening the door to Adam – Victor rehung his portrait as CEO – Aria fit for hearing aids – believably drunk Nicki, also her AA meeting scenes– Colleen Zenk returns to daytime!- Hayley Erin (Claire) picking right up where she left off as GH’s Kiki a few years ago, with her acting evolving to an extraordinary place. - Phyllis and Christine’s Christmas together with Danny – The decadent Christmas décor, you never doubt these are the homes and establishments of wealthy people.

Lows: during Lauren’s 40th anniversary it’s implied that she doesn’t know Sheila is alive, how is that possible when Sheila shot her own son and attempted to murder fashion mogul Steffy, that didn’t make the news with fashion buyer Lauren? – “I was very invigorated by what we accomplished,” Victoria describing the meeting where she and Nate kissed, turns out a female boss creeping on her employee is just as icky as when male bosses do it – An entire episode of fantasy sequences about who’s the father of Sally’s baby – Lauren told Christine that she could complain about Paul to her, the show completely ignoring that Paul, not Christine, is one of Lauren’s nearest dearest friends – Phyllis crying in the judges chambers gets all charges dropped – Crimson Lights manager Esther gives her grandchild’s killer, Adam, free coffee – Kyle and Audra – Christine’s 40th anniversary yet again the show gives her wistful memories of Michael glossing over the fact that he sexually harassed, stalked, and almost raped her. - Too many companies and too many people constantly changing jobs – The whole Victor faking cognitive issues to sniff out a traitor thing didn’t make sense at any point – Colleen Zenk’s return marred by giving her a one note psychopath with murky motivation (it might help if the Newmans, particularly Nicki were in any way responsible for her sister’s death but they weren’t) - So we’re all just trusting that DNA sample from Aunt Jordan’s house are we? No follow up personally taken from Claire? - Heather moves back to Genoa City. Yet the only reason for this eternally boring character ever existing on the show was her dad Paul and he’s not there, so… - Love Trevor St. John, he never fails to do odd, interesting things within nearly every scene, but the writers need to give the guy better story, make it clear who he loves, what he wants, and answer the why of it all, and stop with the plotting corporate revenge, try something else, anything else.

Wishes: Set to a prosecute a girl for burglarizing her home, Christine instead takes guardianship of the young teen, the girl is rough around the edges, the antithesis of pristine Christine, she makes a lot of mistakes as does Christine as a new sudden parent but gradually (months, maybe even a year or so of conflicts and warm moments), a genuine loving bond forms between the two and adoption ensues. Meantime Christine hired a handyman first to fix damage the girl did in the burglary, then for renovations to make her penthouse into more of a family home, so while bonding with her new daughter she’s also getting to know this single dad, romantic sparks a plenty but conflicting parental philosophies, too. Eventually the handyman realizes Christine’s adopted daughter is a child he didn’t know he had, at first he’s going to leave well enough alone, the kid is happy, but in addition to a parenting decision he doesn’t agree with, a moment of danger arises due to Christine’s law career and he sues for custody. - I’d love to see a family introduced (start with one character and slowly, I mean slowly bring on others) who isn’t as financially well off as everyone else in Genoa City, if this show is so deadset on business storylines, how about one where we see someone start in the mail room (maybe a potential love interest for Faith or Claire) who is attempting to work their way up career-wise and socially from nothing. - Reed comes home, taking after grandma with an addiction which he’s trying to hide not only from his family, but from another returnee Mattie, who is as type-A and together as can be, the opposite of where Reed is at, but he’s as in love with her now as he was as a teen.
